Reception
Children enter Reception class from many different Nurseries.
Before they start school, all children and parents are invited to an Induction Session in the classroom with their new classmates, teacher and teaching assistant. We also have a Buddy Afternoon for children to meet their Year 6 buddy who will work with them throughout the year and help them to settle into their new school.
The learning is centred on seven different areas:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Phonics is taught using Read, Write Inc and we have the Oxford Reading Tree to support Reading.
The children have well-resourced classrooms, outdoor learning areas and a large playground.
Throughout the day they enjoy a variety of learning activities taught through topics, with learning organised both inside and outside of the classroom.
A range of events and trips to enhance the curriculum and to make learning engaging and enjoyable are timetabled throughout the year. The children present a Christmas Nativity play.
